Since I was in the Phoenix metro area on this day, I decided to get an early start on the challenge and do Fremont Saddle. The parking lot at the trailhead itself was full when I arrived at around 9:30 am but I was able to park at another trailhead not far from the Peralta Canyon trailhead. Heading into the trail, the ranger informed me that I could see bighorn sheep since they had been sighted. Sure enough, on the way to the saddle, one group of hikers I met heading back to the trailhead pointed me to the distance in the mountain side where there was a group of bighorn sheep on the ledges. I stopped to take photos zooming in on the bighorn sheep.  There were a lot of hikers out today but there were moments when I had the trail all to myself and it didn’t feel crowded. When I got to Fremont Saddle, there were only two other people near by, so I took photos, rested and had a break before heading back. The hike back was faster than my hike getting to Fremont Saddle. I got back to the trailhead early afternoon and in a short while I was back at my car. A good start to the challenge.
