Hungry Like The Wolf: Lobo Peak
Also on this hike
Began another beautiful morning hiking up Italianos Canyon. The lower reaches of the trail, by the creek, were lined with an abundance of Red Raspberry; Eastern Bluestar; Prickly Currant; Cutleaf Coneflower; and Thimbleberry. As the upper reaches became steeper, I wondered if the canyon would ever give up! At the ridge, stopped for a much needed second breakfast. The ridge walk to Lobo provided excellent views to Lake Fork Peak, Vallecito Mountain, and, of course, Wheeler Peak. The weather on Lobo summit was excellent, with a stunning 360 degree panorama on this western edge of the range. Blanca Peak was visible to the north and Sandia Crest to the south. Great views of Taos. After hanging out for over half an hour on the summit, the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped. Time to head down Manzanita Canyon. Another excellent day to finish what has been a truly outstanding Challenge. Can’t wait to return to New Mexico.
