Lonely Belknap

The Belknap Crater hike is one of my favorites!  It’s so interesting to hike through a lava field, although not particularly pleasant.  The views are spectacular everywhere you look, and even though I haven’t done it, I’ve always wanted to spend the night at the top.  I had the whole trail to myself and didn’t see another soul until I was about a mile away from my car when I crossed paths with a PCT hiker from Switzerland who had been on the trail since April.  It was a peaceful hike and ended with a patch of Mountain Huckleberries. Yum!
