Long Stemmed Rose Peak

Very long hike up to Rose Peak. Started just after Sunol Regional park opened at Pat Geary Road. Easy 2 mile in to the park then steady climb up in to the Ohlone Wilderness. Made sure to get a permit at the kiosk on the way in, and sign the board as you leave Sunol Park. Great gradual climb over the rolling green hills. Lots of wildflowers of all colors. Orange, purple, white, was brushed across the hillsides.

Last stretch to the peak was deceiving. Feels like it just keeps hoping from one peak to the next. The peak itself is quite an accomplishment with views from San Jose all the way around to the Altamont and Livermore. Checked out some of the overnight campsites. Filled a 2 liter hydration  bag twice. Recomend bringing a filter. There are lots of places to fill up. Got fairly warm on the way back. Breeze died and our party of 3 took to soaking caps and shirts to cool off. Very thankful we did this in the spring.  Not a lot of tree cover but the views of the hills are breathtaking.

Three quarters in to the hike and the consistant jolting of down hill my legs were jello. Worth it though and great training area for backpacking. Finished to top and back in a casual 7 hours. Almost 19 miles total after exploring some of the camps.
