Maiden Heaven
I wanted to hike Maiden Peak pre-wildfire season. The 2 other times I had been up it had been fairly smoky. This time it was totally clear and beautiful.
The trail did had some blow down, and about half way up it was snow covered. Amen for GPS. As far as I could tell no one had been up to the top because there were no footprints to follow in the snow. When I approached the summit where another trail intersects, I finally did see some footprints from someone who had come up the alternate trail that leads to the top.
Overall, it was a fun adventure. Navigating made it more fun and interesting. Without GPS I wouldn’t have felt comfortable continuing through the snow.
Great work, Chris! What gear did you need for the snow? Microspikes? Snowshoes? Any post-holing?
Hey Jeff! Thanks! Only used my YakTrax heading down. Only one post hole coming down as the snow was softening. Was firm heading up. Hit the trail at 8 am.
