I’ve hiked Mount Baldy many times from the Devil’s Backbone but never from the Baldy Bowl. It was a tough hike but so rewarding! Loved having an early lunch at the ski hut and filled up some water bottles at the stream (used water treatment capsules), as well as soaked a bandanna for my neck which was clutch. The trail gets really steep with a lot of loose rocks and gravel from the hut to the summit, making it a slow go. There were a couple of times we thought we had reached the summit only to realize it was another mile to go. But once we got to the top, it was all worth it. Popped some bubbles to celebrate, then headed down the Devil’s Backbone. I highly recommend going that way versus hiking back down the Bowl. Saw so many people (many with tennis shoes and no grip) were slipping and falling on their decent. Finished off the day with some burgers at the Baldy Lodge (the best). Such a great day! Now, five more to go!
