Mount Diablo Foothills to Summit Loop
First time on Mt. Diablo. Liked a lot diversity of the terrain and great views along the way. Did not know about the coins at the Beacon windows, and had none with me to throw in. Had plenty of water, but almost run out of phone charge 😀 did not check the power bank before going out, it was almost empty. Going down there are several pretty steep sections, which were somewhat challenging on a bit tired legs, maybe I need a better fit boots (or more practice?) – going up they feel great, but going down it is always a pain on the toes when it is steep.
“Going down it is always a pain on the toes.” 100% agreed! It makes sense because now your feet are shifting to the front of your shoes, where your toes are feeling the pressure and are repeatedly rubbing against that surface.
I experience this even when I’m hiking regularly. When there are steep downhill portions, my toes feel it, and that’s when the blisters start forming. I pack strips of duct tape to wrap around my toes when I start feeling it and they save my life. Unorthodox, yes, but it works.
