Mount Elden trail makes you work those stunning views!
If you’re up for a challenge and ready to earn some epic views, the Mount Elden Lookout Trail is calling your name! This isn’t your average stroll through the forest. It’s a short, a little over 5 miles RT, but steep grind that will test your legs and reward your spirit. I’ve tackled Mount Elden a few times, and each trip still delivers a solid workout! The trail starts off gentle with a slow incline, easing you in before throwing down with steep, rocky switchbacks that climb relentlessly toward the summit. But don’t let that intimidate you, the higher you go, the better the views get. By the time you reach the top, you’ll be standing above Flagstaff with sweeping vistas of the San Francisco Peaks, Painted Desert, and beyond. It’s absolutely worth every drop of sweat. An early would probably be a good idea around this time of the year, temperatures climb fast, and parts of the trail are exposed. That said, there’s plenty of pine cover to catch your breath in the shade when you need it. Just take your time, bring plenty of water, and embrace the challenge. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just pushing your limits, this trail will leave you feeling strong, accomplished, and inspired.
