Mount Woodson and Potato Chip Rock
I flew all night from Alaska and arrived in San Diego at 9:30AM. I knew I wanted to start with Mount Woodson because of the proximity to the hotel and convention site. All Trails said the hike would take 2-3 hours for the short way, and 4-6 for the long way. I didn’t know how much time I had to spare so I chose the shorter way. I was tired from flying but energized by the heat, I was most welcome! My first observation was how HUGE the boulders were. One earthquake could change everything for sure…the boulders were impressive, and different. I wasn’t expecting a paved trail, but I thought it nice for the younger hikers and those who were starting to get used to walking at incline. In hindsight though, knowing I did the hiking portion up and down in just over an hour, I wish I had taken the longer way!! But, all in all, it was great!!
