Mountain Diablo =]
Also on this hike
I completed this hike for the Bay Area Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge.
This hike was incredible, thanks to the advice of several reviewers suggesting it be done clockwise (instead of how it’s shown on AllTrails), where you tackle the more steep / mountainous half first, then return on the more graded dirt road.
Glad I did. It had been raining on & off for several hours, so the trail was muddy / slippery. On the way up, I ran into several sections that looked sketchy to go down over slick rocks & gravel.
The ridge between Twin Peaks and Eagle Peak was amazing.
It was a windy/rainy day, so there were zero views from the summit. No problem; the goal was to bag the peak. The graded dirt road path back down was a welcomed relief. I highly recommend trekking poles on this hike.
*Also, a warning! The route on AllTrails is a little off. Leaving Eagle Peak, it led me to an outcrop that would’ve been a bad idea to continue down. When leaving Eagle Peak (heading towards Diablo), the trail splits w/ a dirt path going down and to the left, and a rocky outcrop going straight and to the right. Go left!
**To the two fellow hikers I met on the trail: Thanks for taking my pic! It came out great! Please message me and I’ll send you some pretty awesome pics & videos of you working your way across the ridge.**
With Gratitude, Narayan
