Hiked with a group

It was a crisp, foggy morning on Saturday, January 18, when 30+ hikers gathered at Mt. Diablo to join me on my quest to take on the 6 Peak Challenge. This was a challenging hike of over 14 miles, but hikers could take alternate routes to tailor the experience to their preferences.

We started out from Mitchell Canyon at 8 a.m. sharp and headed up to Mitchell Rock, then Twin Peaks, before finally taking a well-deserved break at Eagle Peak. Along the way, the views grew increasingly beautiful as the morning fog cleared, revealing clear skies and sunshine.

The mountain was a mix of green from winter growth, but with the lack of recent rain, brown tones mingled in. On the trail, hikers spread out, each moving at their own pace, testing their skills and endurance against the varied terrain.

At the summit of Mt. Diablo, faster hikers were already enjoying the panoramic views and taking a break. It was a good day to be able to see the Sierra’s and the show capped mountains. And, as promised, there were ice cream sandwiches! After a good rest and some photos, the group continued on to North Peak. Along the way, we passed other members of our group still heading toward the Diablo summit.

Reaching North Peak, we pressed on to Mount Olympia, completing the peak challenge. While it’s technically more like “5 peaks and a rock,” the route included Mitchell Rock (a “wannabe” peak), Twin Peaks, Eagle Peak, Mt. Diablo, North Peak, and Mount Olympia.

Our group returned to the parking lot around 3:30 p.m. According to my Garmin, we covered 14.63 miles, gained 5,223 feet in elevation, and completed the hike in about seven hours. Judging by how we all felt afterward, we definitely took the hard way!

Thanks to all from the Bay Are Hikers who joined me today on Mt. Diablo!  I have posted all the pictures and videos here, along with a link to the AllTrails route we took. If you have any questions about my hikes, feel free to message me, and I’ll share all my info. 1. Hello Jason.. recently two of us have signed up for this six weak challenge! Is there a possibility of us to establish a connect so that we can take the next hike together!
