Set off at 0640am.  Stwady uphill the entire way.  First 2.5 miles very steep and very rough trail.  A bit less steep after merging onto the truck road.  Arrived at the fire tower 1050am.  Ranger popped out to say hi.  Coming down also a challenge the final 2.5 miles, again steep and rough.  Weather was great…cool the entire morning.  No bugs.
