  1. Sturtevant Falls – this was a side trip, which is an extra 0.8 miles. But, it’s worth it.
  2. Sturtevant Trail – I think it’s a better way to ascent than Mt Wilson trail. The trail has lots of foliage and shady areas to rest if needed. The Sturtevant camp is also a great way to learn about the history behind the camp.
  3. The last 1.4 miles to the top – my 13-year-old son started to complain when we got here, which was understandable. I had to encourage him to walk 30 feet at a time. The last mile took us a long time. We also carried a 15 pounds pack, sort of training for our future backpacking trips. Whew! We survived.
  4. The descent via Mount Wilson to Chantry Flats. The total hike was 15 miles for us. The last three miles was a push to get it over with. We were glad to get it done.

Lesson Learned: use proper socks and cushioned to minimize sole friction during the descent
