Hike is on a Forest Service Rd so it’s dirt, loose dirt, for the first mile but it firms up. Views of walls of old lava early in the hike the the views turn into beautiful vistas of northern Arizona & the San Francisco Peaks as you ascend higher.

Once you summit at the observation tower, if you want an even more magnificent view you are welcome to climb the 40 steps to the Lookout Deck!
