I did this hike 2 months ago now. The beginning of the trail is adjacent to a lava field which is really cool. This is a wide, dirt trail. Very easy on the feet. Steep in sections, but one foot in front of the other and we made it! We got to tour the tower too which was cool. Great views of sunset crater and the lava flow below on the climb up.
