Free parking at trailhead. Friendly, accommodating Forest Service employee, who waited with his grater until I hiked past him a couple times.
This trail looked deceptively easy with its wide trail, but the loose cinder got me. I hiked it in 4.5 hours. Thankfully, I used my trekking poles.
Great views of Sunset Crater from the upper switchbacks; otherwise, the scenery was a bit monotonous.
