Over the Second Hump

We worked up an appetite after we summited Piestewa and then drove to the Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback Mountain after we refueled our systems. Social Hiker labeled Camelback as “moderate” but the sign at the trailhead said “extremely difficult” with two black diamonds. Um. What? We were already tired from finishing Piestewa just an hour or so prior so having it dawn on us that Camelback was going to be harder than what we had originally mentally prepared ourselves for was comical and somewhat terrifying.

Step, rocky, crowded. Very cool Flinstonesque rock formations. Great weather, thank goodness! We felt a great sense of accomplishment after summiting the two challenging hikes in one day.
