PCT – Donner High Route to Tinker Knob
Also on this hike
This may be my favorite Tahoe trail so far. It felt great to be at a cool 8000’ while the valleys faced a heat wave. The trail was in perfect shape by now — tons of wildflowers, one snow field that was easy to get around, and well-worn paths through Anderson Peak’s talus fields. And the views! This is what the Sierra Crest is all about, and this route is a perfect example.
There were plenty of northbound PCT hikers out today. They were moving fast with their loaded packs but all very friendly. It felt like a community up there. It took me about 6 hours of moving time to cover 14.95 miles and 3104’.
Hi Anne-Marie, considering this one for Aug 2nd but wondering how much relief there is from sun. Is there much shade along this I trail?
Hi Rachel, there is some shade. I would estimate approximately 1/3 of the route is through trees. I would recommend starting early and wearing a good sun hoodie for coverage.
@Anne-Marie thanks!
