The reason we wimped out and used the closest trailhead was a result of an unexpected 5 hour journey time (including a 90 mile diversion) because of the fires. We wanted to ensure we peaked before it got dark/cold, so did Pinos first then went on to Sawmill and Grouse. Gorgeous hike, perfect weather.
