The continuous elevation gain, and a lot of minor scrambling through boulders and rocky outcrops make this route challenging.
It’s been a few years since I’d hiked the Marion Mountain Trail, and it is more challenging than I remember.
The trail is in great condition and easy to follow, with abundant water sources available this time of year.
I was shocked to see an entire alpine meadow denuded by this past winters heavy rains.
I am a notoriously slow hiker, but this time it took so long that my phone died before I reached Little Round Valley, for my customary nap on a warm sunny rock.
