Spectacular Sedona Overlook from Wilson Mountain

Climbing Wilson Mountain via the North Wilson Trail was longer but definitely more forgiving than Bear Mountain. The morning canyon ascent through forested switchbacks on a good trail lined with wildflowers made the earlier start (5:17am) worth the effort. Of course the coup de grace is the spectacular Sedona Overlook, with its eye-popping desert panorama. Spent over 45 minutes just soaking up the views. Also took in North Canyon Overlook, the extra 4 miles round trip being worth it for an impressive view up Oak Creek Canyon looking towards the distinctive volcanic mass of Humphreys Peak. A thoroughly enjoyable morning with unforgettable scenery.
