Still snow on Ontario

Next on the hit list. Ontario peak. Not many people in the parking lot at dawn. Which was surprising. Most people seemed to be going to timber than Cucamonga or Ontario.

No snow minus one small drift all the way up to the saddle. 3 waterfalls were visible from the trail, with the middle one a pretty grand one from all the snow melt that I dont recall ever seeing.

Past the saddle though, there is snow for about 4/5 of the way to the peak. I would say that it’s going to be around for another 2-4 weeks. In the morning the snow froze so you are stepping on various footprints of different sizes and angles, which is tough on the ankles. In the afternoon the snow turns to slush, where I was sliding at times in microspikes. So it can be done, even without Spikes. It’ll just come down to experience.

Overall though a fun and challenging hike in current conditions. Also there is no sign at the peak.
