Still Snow on Trees at Cuyamaca Peak

Chilly this am in parking lot, glad we had jackets and gloves. We took the Azalea Glen loop trail up to the Azalea Fire Road and it connects to Conejos trail and then merges with the paved Fire Road 1/2 mile from summit. We used All Trails app to navigate and it was really easy to follow. I highly recommend this route as it is thru pine forest and offers amazing views and is a dirt and rock trail. We were lucky to have a small amount of snow on the ground but a substantial amount in the trees and at first we thought it was hailing but it was just ice falling from the massive trees. It was spectacular and made a nice mist when it hit the ground. The towers at the top were creaking as massive ice was falling from them. The landscape was really green and manzanita in bloom and only saw 4 other hikers on the trail. We took the fire road back down to campground to make it a loop. A really beautiful hike!
