Strawberry Peak via Red Box 2025 – Solo Hike

Second year hiking Strawberry Peak. It’s a long slog from San Diego but I enjoyed the views so much last year that I decided to come back for more. The gorgeous sunrise from the trailhead at the Red Box Picnic area is well worth the early drive. People seem to come up just to watch the sun rise and leave again. As a bonus, you also get the benefits from the cooler morning hours and some early shade on an otherwise very exposed trail.
Once again, Strawberry Peak Trail didn’t disappoint. It’s one of the shorter and easier hikes of the series but well worth the detour. The 360 views of the San Gabriel Mountains are magnificent. There was hardly anyone on the trail and no bug companions either. With the temperatures starting to climb by mid morning – time to head back down the mountain and make my way over to Baldy.
