Sunny Sunday in the Pines
Also on this hike
It’s been 4 years since I did this one last and I forgot how beautiful it is- views and pine trees the entire way up. My favorite part is still the last bit past the Wally Waldron tree. The weather was perfect and I was shocked at how relatively uncrowded it was for a Sunday. There are a couple of downed trees and a few rock slide areas to navigate, but it’s not really a problem. I’d seen reports of parking problems lately, but I arrived at 7:40 AM and there were tons of spots both in the official lot and at the parking across the road from the main lot.
Not new info, but just adding here for anyone who hasn’t kept up with other trail reports:
- Restroom at the trailhead is NOT recommended for use because it’s been linked to a norovirus outbreak. As of 5/24 there was a sign warning against entering.
- Lot at the trailhead has been taken over by a private group and you must pay a fee. It can be paid there. No America the Beautiful or similar passes accepted.
- If you park across the street from the trailhead you can use your America the Beautiful (or similar) pass for parking
Happy hiking!
