The Lake is not a Lake ????
Also on this hike
This hike had it all, beauty, interesting things to see (Horse Camp, crazy grasshoppers, sweeping views). We started out on an easy to follow trail. When we got to Horse Camp we toured the cabin and read a bit of the history of the area. There was a spring of water that was posted as pure to drink, it was delicious and cool. After that we headed up a stone path called the causeway. It was communicated to stay of the rock path to help with erosion. When the rock path ended our work began.
We climbed up tight switchbacks on scree and sand. The topography was very interesting. We climbed up past crazy jagged rocks and through pumice fields. We lost the “trail” due to snow on the Avalanche Gulch path, but I’m sure there is usually snow on that part. It wasn’t hard to find our way as at that point we were above the tree line and could clearly see where we needed to go.
At the location of the lake there is a deep pile of snow. It made me wonder if at some times of the year there is a lake here, or if there is no longer a lake there.
