Hiked with a group

Saturday’s hike was perfect condition. Our group got there before 6am and there was a decent amount of parking at Vivian Creek. It was a bit chilly that morning but nothing a light jacket couldn’t handle. The jackets came off once our climb began – didn’t need to put them back on until we reached the summit. The winds were blowing pretty hard at the top so it was chilly.

I’m still adjusting to the altitude so the climb towards the summit was slower than some of the folks in our group. They went ahead while I took plenty of meditation breaks with a friend. Thankfully the hikers on the trail were friendly and welcoming. Shout out to Norma and her friend for the company part of the way. I found out about this challenge from them. Thank you!

The trail was gorgeous – enjoyed the changing landscape from the rocky creek to the forest to the open mountain and the stunning view from the summit. We did get lost for a mile on the way down the summit – we blew past the sign saying Vivan Creek Trail was another way. Honestly I was so tired I wanted to cry when we found out we had to turn around and climb up again. It wasn’t bad but I was definitely paying attention to our surroundings more on the way down.

The whole trip took about 10 hours. A successful first time at San Gorgonio. On the way home I swore I wouldn’t do this trail again this year (exhaustion). As I type this I’m thinking another trip at the end of summer/early fall would be great at my own pace.
