Great trail with a great companion. This hike was beautiful. There was a waterfall slightly off trail, a lovely assortment of wildflowers throughout, and not just mountain goats… but BABY mountain goats!
Reserve a spot for parking the day before to avoid adding extra miles to an already long hike. Rangers were ticketing and towing cars parked on the side of the road. If you opt to pay day of, it’s cash only.
Download the trail map well before reaching the trailhead as there is no service close to Timpooneke. However, the trail is pretty clearly marked the whole way and doable without a map.
No special equipment needed despite some snow. You can manage to get around most snowy areas by opting for a rocky route. As the snow is melting, use caution to avoid post holing.
