The last hike in Bay Area group’s Lake Tahoe Six Peak Challenge! We had planned on doing Freel Peak, but we were all pretty tired and didn’t think we were up for it. That left Tinker Knob.

The forecast called for warm days (in the 80s), so we got a pre-dawn start with hopes of being off the trail during the hottest part of the day. The trail took us initially through a forest before it opened up to the ridge with the remainder of the hike on the ridge and through a couple of large rock fields (path was smooth in between the rocks).

When we made it to Tinker Knob, we searched for ways to get to the summit but were not successful. We didn’t mind a bit of rock scrambling, but as we climbed higher, not only did the rock scrambling not feel terribly stable, but we also just weren’t sure the path would get us to the summit. We took our ‘summit’ photo and had a quick bite.

Our way back along the ridge was in the afternoon, so the sun had started to beat down. As we finished the last 7 miles or so of our Lake Tahoe Six Peaks adventure, each of us found our own pace and our own thoughts.

68.9 miles with 15,820′ elevation gain over 6 hikes and 7 days! Whew! Amazing!
