Visiting O’Leary Lookout

After camping at Bonita Campground, I made a short cross-country hike to the service road that would lead me up to the summit. This road is better than some back in San Diego. The person staffing the tower passed me partway up the mountain. Before too long, I found myself also at the summit. I was invited up into the tower by Shawn, and we chatted for a good 30 minutes (I have been in towers before, so the “lookout tower 101 talk” wasn’t needed). Since it was already 74°F on the summit, I thought it best to head back down before it got even warmer. I am kicking myself, now knowing how good the road was to the summit, that I did not do it for sunrise! One more peak to go to finish this six pack!
