We took The Five Oaks trial which runs parallel to the fire road and is much more scenic. About a 1.2 miles from the top the FOT merges with the road. You will enjoy a flat strech before start climbing again. The view point at the top is one of my favorite spot. On a clear day the views are amazing. To my surprise no wind today. No snow or ice just few muddy patches. Trail in good condition. The 5.6 miles hike was moderate with about 1200 elevation gain. Doing it with a fun group was the best part.
I also hiked Volcan today and I think I saw your group on the way down! Congrats on the hike!
