Windy
Also on this hike
We arrived to King Canyon Trailhead and was treated to an empty parking lot, beautiful sunrise and wind. As soon as we got out of the truck the wind was blowing us around. We started out heading counter clockwise on the loop. I don’t think it matter which direction you go. About mile 2 we encountered a small heard of deer. They were not afraid of us, as they kept eating as we walked by them. The tail has lots of scenery, Sahuaro cactus as far as the eye can see. The trail is well marked and easy to negotiate. The first 3 miles were at a nice incline, for the last mile to the peak we had to drop it down a gear to move up the trail. The top of the peak is always unreal. We saw the snow on Mount Lemon and you can see Kitty Hawk Observatory the other direction. The wind was still blowing us around. We then started heading back down toward the parking lot. The wind beat us up all the way down. My feet were a little tired from the rocky trail, but as always it is worth it.
