Exploring Gray Butte in Central Oregon
When I was up in Oregon over the holiday break, my friend Ben and I explored the newest peak in the Central Oregon Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge — Gray Butte. The route we took started at the Smith Rock Visitor Center, and clocked in at 13.2 miles total. There were a couple inches of snow on the summit, but nothing that required traction devices (though that could change at any time if a new storm rolls in). The views of Smith Rock with the Cascade range in the background were pretty epic.
