Peak signs
Joined the Southern California challenge a couple of weeks ago, and received my welcome pack in the mail today.
While combing thru the website, noticed that in many of the pictures there are signs indicating the peak and elevation. Are signs available?

I just did Sitton Peak and there was a cool sign that somebody was kind enough to leave at the top. I haven’t seen these available to purchase anywhere.

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like some of the peaks may have signs there, while others are handmade.

Hi Lorie,
Most peaks in my experience that actually have a sign are not placed by the Forest Service, although those do exist (Baldy). It appears that most signs are placed on the summit by some nice hiker. Sometimes the signs go missing (Mt Wilson, San Jacinto). Some peaks even have multiple signs (Cucamonga, San Gorgonio). I’ve never seen signs for purchase here on Social Hiker, if that’s what you meant by, “Are signs available?” Time to get out the craft supplies and make some personal summit flags for each one of your next summit attempt.

The information provided about signs makes sense to me, based on my limited knowledge. Fortunately I have a beautiful, creative artist friend that works with wood and creates such signs. She made one for my trail sisters and me for the challenge this year. It’s on its way, in the mail now; or I would share a pic. I am sure she would be happy to create a sign for you too! Please keep in mind she’s a small business owner and does live in West Michigan so not sure shipping is included in the price, but you can discuss those details with her directly. ☺️
