Got to the parking lot around 5:30am and it filled up quickly right after. The weather was quite nice and warmer than I expected (I was last in the area in March and there was still snow). Nothing fancy about the hike as I have been to the saddle on numerous occasions, but it was my first time taking the trail up to Ontario. The first 1-1.25 miles to Kelly camp are relatively easy, but it climbs up a bit from there to the junction point. I think the junction where the trail splits for Big Horn was the nicest treat. It has a great view of the valley and for us we were above the clouds. From the junction to the peak it states it is only 1.3 miles but seems like an eternity, but it could because we are much higher in elevation so the altitude sickness was kicking in. In addition, there are several downed logs on the trail. Some were simple to get over and others were very annoying-nothing dangerous. I should caveat such by saying I was in canvas pants and I am a big dude… Overall the hike was great and it was nice to get up there. There is a bottle opener on the tree at the top and it should be noted that the summit is a very small area. On the way down there were so many lady bugs by the river with about 1-2 miles left back to the parking lot. Also, there was not much shade after reaching the summit (10am).
