Great hike! We met 1 person who was finishing when we were starting at about 10:15am. They suggested the Five Oaks Trail, so we took that when it branched off to the right of the fire road. I'll take the alternate every time given the choice between that and a fire road.

The views opened up right away. We could see farms below and heard the buzz of machinery in the distance. We only met 5 other people the entire hike.

We saw a Mule Deer as soon as we approached the trail head. We parked on Farmer Road, but got a little lost because Farmer Road splits… you want the one on the left past where you see the one on the right. Then,  there's a sign for the Volcan Wilderness.

We enjoyed the shade 😎 because it was 90 degrees at the top. We didn't see the metal marker, but someone had left a clever “badass” sign for us to snap a few selfies!

We enjoyed the Oaks, the Manzanita, the views, the solitude, and the climb. Great beginning to our six-pack of Peaks adventure!

We also stopped at the Julian Pie Company for fresh pie, ice cream, and coffee. It's a great reward!

    1. We are, but we’ll need to schedule some more time in San Diego to complete the challenge. Maybe in September or October. Looks like the app has one face, and the WordPress site has another since I have a blog that I haven’t been active on for years, but I connected to clean.socialhiker.net!
