Today was a great day to hike Mt. Umunhum. The brave group hiked 16.7 miles and gained 2874 in elevation. And at the top there was candy!
We started out at 830 sharp from the Sierra Azul Parking Lot At Jacques Ridge and took the Woods trail to Barlow Road. It was a nice cool day, and the trail was covered for the most part. It was partly cloudy all day and maybe 65 degrees at best. There were no others on the trail and we had it all to ourselves. Along the many pictures were taken and the group got to know each other.
After taking a left on Barlow Road we made it up to the Mt. Umunhum trail and toot a right on it. This was the popular trail that most take from the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve Bald Mountain Parking Lot. We encountered more hikers but the trail was not at all crowded.
We stopped for a few minutes at the Guadalupe Creek Overlook and pictures were taken by all.
We hit the summit at about 1130ish and celebrated our accomplishment atop Umunhum with the reward of promised candy!
After our lunch we hit the restrooms and headed back down the same way we came. On the way down there were a few mountain bikers and we passed two groups of hikers going back up to the summit for the second time!
On our return back to the cars we stared to string out more on the trail because 16.7 miles is a solid hike. We were back at the cars at Sierra Azul about 255pm.
It was a great day and a pleasure to hike with a good group! Thanks to all who came. Enjoy all the photos!
