This is my 18th peak that I needed to do. I have now done 18 peaks in the past 5 years of this challenge. But for this year, it was peak 13.
So, we chose the Maple Springs trail since Holy Jim is still closed. This is a truck trail, which we learned that trucks, Jeeps, dirt bikes, ATVs, and regular bikes constantly go up and down the peak.
We drove halfway up. The first part is a paved road and the second part was all dirt road. So you need a high clearance vehicle to make it on the dirt. Then, we hiked from the divide up to the peak. It was a beautiful sunny day and lots of people were driving up to the peak also. They were friendly and kept asking us if we are ok because we were hiking, instead of driving. We also did Modjeska Peak right next to Santiago. It was a great day, but know that there is no shade on this trail so bring enough liquids.
