What a perfect day! My hiking partner, Sarah, and I took the tram up to Long Valley for a San Jacinto Peak summit attempt. This was my 25th summit of San Jacinto and my 2nd this year. More importantly, it was Sarah's 1st summit of San Jacinto and her 12th peak (between 2022 and 2023) of the SoCal Six Pack of Peaks Challenge.
Today was a very relaxing and easy trek up to the summit. Temperatures, while blazing hot down on the desert floor, were a very comfortable and mild 70 plus degrees on the trail that felt even cooler with a slight breeze and shade throughout the day. It was a perfect way for Sarah to complete her challenge and her training as she heads off to Africa soon to attempt a Kilimanjaro summit.
There is absolutely no snow on the trail and the trail looks great! Tons of people out today avoiding the heat below and enjoying the day. Of course, most of the hikers we saw today were hiking up from the tram, but there were dozens more coming up from the Idyllwild side of the mountain. One hiker we met at the summit (a retired Marine, Semper Fi Brother) hiked up from the South Ridge Trail to Tahquitz Peak Lookout and then on to the summit along the PCT and then the Deer Springs trail. He still had a long trek to make it back to his car.
Anyway, another great day on trail, enjoying friends, hikers, and nature!
