OUR FIRST PEAK!! Got to Red Box Picnic Area around 7:15am on Friday 2/26 to find only two others cars. The weather was already gorgeous so we could tell it was going to be a great day!

The first mile was going well and then we got tripped up crossing with Mt Lawlor. We accidentally went south up a steep little incline (adding some distance and elevation to our trip). Realized at the top of that hill, checking our AllTrails, and got back on track!

It was another very easy 1.5 miles until we got to the climb. Gorgeous views of nearby peaks the whole way! It also started getting warmer in the sun. We also didn’t see anyone else on the trail until the climb (expected given the parking lot).

I was dreading the climb a bit knowing we hadn’t put in much elevation. Glad I brought my poles and plenty of water! Took our time and FINALLY reached the summit. We had a big German Shepard mix with us who made it look easy. I’ve read mixed reviews on dogs for this trail, but ours did great!

There was a little snow still but all off trail. It was a warm day with lots of sun.

Celebrated with an Strawberry Lager and some fresh strawberries. Took a few pictures then heard a crowd coming. There was a pretty large group of hikers who got there a little after we summitted. We waited for them to leave then took our time back. The downhill is just as hard, if not harder, to get down.

Back at the car, the lot filled in more, but still had plenty of space. We had been worried it might be crowded but maybe it’s not as bad on a Friday. Other than that very big group, we only saw a few other pairs of hikers all morning.

Overall: 10/10, will hike again! Looking forward to bagging the bigger peaks soon!
