Have been chomping at the bit, trying to nail my fist peak hike this year.

Was scheduled to do this hike Friday with my daughter, but my brother unexpectedly died last Thursday. So it may seem unfeeling to get out on the trail so soon after his death, but yesterday's hike was exactly what I needed before coming back to the real world of his death and arrangements and grief.

This hike was hard for me, but when it got tough near the top, I thought of my brother. He was a radical skateboarder  ( Jake Phelps/Thrasher) and went all in with whatever he did, so I channelled that all in spirit to make it to the top.

Not many people on the way up, and got an early start so saw deer and bunnies and hawks and butterflies before the world woke. Love the Eagle Peak trail and amazing weather – wore a T-shirt the whole time and never needed a jacket. Also loved the Deer Flat section of the trail back down, as it opens up to amazing views.  Trail was basically clear , a couple of downed trees and some mud but overall great conditions.

Took me 7 hours with breaks for birds and snacks. Am a little worried I may not be able to complete Sizer and Rose but will keep working' at it.
