I hiked Cucamonga Peak on Memorial Day (5/30/2022).  The weather was nice, a morning chill that gave way to weather that was not too hot.

This was my second time doing the Cucamonga Peak hike so I decided to also take the mile detour (each way) to Etiwanda Peak.  I only passed a few other people on my way to Etiwanda and ended up having the peak to myself. Above the clouds, it was a beautiful spot to rest and enjoy a snack.

The descent on the Icehouse Canyon trail always gives my knees issues for a few days afterward, so I decided to try out the Chapman Trail on the way back.  A few things about this trail: While it does provide a less-steep descent, it is just as rocky as the Icehouse Canyon trail. It is also longer (an additional 1.7 miles) and can be hard to follow at times. I would highly recommend using a GPX file if you take this way. I ran into a couple who were about to turn around because they lost sight of the trail as it went into a rocky section.  They followed me for a bit (I also made sure they made it back to the Icehouse Canyon trail safely, as they were not too far behind me the whole time).

My knees still hurt after the hike, although maybe slightly less. I always love the peacefulness of Icehouse Canyon. I just wish it were less painful.
