This hike was from the Maple Springs Road. I drove in part of the way so that the hike would be a 10-mile round trip hike as opposed to a 20-mile round trip hike. Because this was a fire road, I had to share the road with cyclists and 4wd vehicles. The weather was sunny although there were clouds hovering above Santiago Peak when it became visible. There were a few wildflowers along the road. I had the summit all to myself despite the number of vehicles on the road. The views from the summit were not as visible due to clouds and a light fog but it was still good. There were a few moments when the clouds would briefly clear. The hike back was uneventful. I got back to my car at sunset and by the time daylight ended I was back at the gate on Maple Springs Road.
