Wow, what fun! Well, depends on your definition of fun, perhaps. Today was a blustery day on Belknap Crater. Snow at the top, which wasn’t a problem. But, gale force winds too, which threatened to blow me off the mountain, or keep me from summiting. I am stubborn, though – I was determined to reach the top. I scrambled on all fours to reduce my profile from the wind for the last quarter mile or so, and crab walked to get back down. There were no views, much of the hike was in the clouds. It took me 1.75 hours to reach the top, and I didn’t linger, it was too cold and windy. I took a couple hours to get back down, in part because I went over to Little Belknap on my way down. Note that there was no signage at the fork for Belknap – odd, since there was signage for Little Belknap! A completely solitary hike today, perhaps because no one else had such bad judgment. I’ll bet this is much easier on a clear day! This was my 7th of the 6 Peaks – clearly I don’t know when to stop.
