This was my second time up Santiago Peak. Last time was on the Holy Jim Trail. However, this time the Holy Jim Trail was closed. So the next best option seemed to be Maple Springs trail, which take up right near Modjeska Peak. So this time we bagged two peak in one hike. It was cool, cloudy, foggy, and misty… so strange for a day in October. We summited both peaks, then missed the turnoff to the sigle track tail next to the road. So we cheked the map and decided to keep going on the road. We got back to where we belonged, and maybe added a mile to the hike. It was so foggy that day, that it was near whiteout conditions in the afternoon. But the clouds parted at the top of both peaks, and we were treated to views of the peaks of the other big mountains over 5,600 feet high, most of which we already climbed for the San Diego and SoCal Six Packs!
