Made a solo hike for my first time up to the summit of Mt Baldy. Started just after 6 am. The weather was perfect. A little chilly at the start, solid cloud cover, and minor wind. The trail up to the ski hut is mostly clear. There are patches of ice, but it was easy to navigate with boots and trekking poles. Stopped at the ski hut to refuel and gear up. Pulled out the crampons, helmet, and ice axe just in case. Took a bit of my own trail on the way up to the ridgeline, had some fun climbing through the snow and ice up the slope. Followed the trail from the top of the ridge to the summit. Stayed up there for 10 minutes or so and headed back down, following the Baldy Bowl Trail back to the hut. Downgraded my gear, had a snack, and walked back to the truck from there.
Very few people were out, which was awesome. Had the summit to myself to enjoy the views and the success in peace and quiet. The ice was getting a bit slushy as I was headed down, so that is something to be mindful of when hiking up there later in the day or without cloud cover. Overall, a great hike, and I will absolutely hit it again.
