For my birthday, I really wanted to do some backcountry camping so I decided to get a peak in as well 😉

We started at Humber Park and hiked to our site “Goose Berry” at Round Valley. It was super steep at the beginning, but leveled off. Camping was super fun and a bit cold. I got to try out a lot of new gear for the first time so it was an adventure.

Next day, we made our summit bit to the peak of San Jacinto. It was a gorgeous day and you could see for miles. Dan and I tried to find his entry in the log books in the hut at the peak but we it had been a while. But if you want to look us up, we're there!

I really loved adding the camping element to the hike. Like adding the cramponing/mountaineering element to Baldy, it made the hike so much more of an adventure. If you do this, definitely pick a longer, harder route. It's so worth it and you get to see/experience a lot more than you would for just a day hike.

  1. Overnight trips are a GREAT way to bag the Six-Pack of Peaks. I’ve done overnight trips on 5 out of 6 peaks. I still need to do an overnight on Mt Baldy one of these days…
