After getting off to a late start, we took advantage of the slow and steady ascent up South Fork. Wow! The wild flowers are still in bloom here. The meadows section smells incredibly good right now.
There was still a good amount of water flowing in the creek. Dollar Lake was full, and quite cold. After spending the night at Dollar Lake camp, we set off early in the morning to make the summit hike, which was only about 4 miles from the Dollar Lake saddle. The hike to the top from Dollar Lake was soooo easy compared to the brutal last two miles on the Vivian Creek trail. We made it to the summit just as the last summit campers were leaving, and we had the summit all to ourselves for about 15 minutes.
There were rangers on the trail this weekend. Ranger John asked for our camping permit (had on hand) and said he had already found 4 groups without overnight permits. Get your permits, people!
