We decided to challenge ourselves and chose to bag 2 peaks as an overnight backpacking adventure. Our packs were heavy as we carried 4 liters of water. We got to the saddle and then started the hike to Ontario. A few patches of snow which can be navigated with poles. We did drop our heavy packs off trail and just took essentials with us. We reached the peak and had it all to ourselves. Lovely! We then descended back down to get our packs and to return to the saddle. Of note, there is currently a small flow of water about a mile up towards Ontario that we could have filtered if we had known; not sure how long it will continue to flow. After returning to the saddle, we headed up to Cucamonga. With our heavy packs and tired legs, this was quite the challenge. But we did it! And we had this summit all to ourselves too. Even saw a long buck. This is where we camped. No wind and nu bugs. Took in the endless views, the spectacular sunset and the city lights. Quite lovely and highly recommend. In the morning we had breakfast and headed back down. Ontario was my 6th peak! Going for all 12 again this year.
