Early on the mountain (6:30 am — only car in the parking area, so I think I win early bird)! Did the round trip to ski lift, Devil’s Backbone, the second lower peak past the Backbone (bur before Baldy), Baldy, then came back along the Bowl route. Didn’t see anyone on the way up. Many folks enjoying an unseasonably warm hike up the Baldy Bowl as I was descending.
A glorious day on the mountain. I’ve done r/t hikes both ways before, but this was the first for the loop. Hardly any snow. The Bowl path was in worse condition than I remember. Feet got chewed up by new boots, which I returned on my way back to Ojai at the Arcadia REI. I had the 1st gen Salomon Quest 4D’s and moved on to La Sportiva Trango Trks. Going to wait for the new 4d 3 gen to hit the stores. These may be overkill for CA. Do folks have favourites boot or shoe suggestions for doing the 6 Pack?

  1. Good job. Early bird is the only bird.
I love my Danner Mountain 600 for everything around Socal. Waterproof, lightweight, flexible, incredible grip and super comfortable. Actually I love them in general. My 2cents.
